About the charities:

Skate4Cancer strives to hype up youth on the importance of cancer prevention and community building.
When Skate4Cancer first came to fruition, Rob Dyer was sixteen years old. He had lost a mother, both grandmothers and a best friend to cancer. He had witnessed the people he loved fighting the toughest battles of their lives, and he wanted to redirect his sadness by pushing himself as hard as he could. The idea to skateboard from Los Angeles to Toronto came to him, and he went for it. Skate4Cancer continues to donate all proceeds to hospitals and charities.

GIFTS Foundation is a grassroots charity that our HUNTCLUB family and friends started 10 years ago. Our mandate is to continue to feed, rebuild homes, and educate underprivileged people. Every single cent we have raised in the last 10 years has gone directly to help nourish the lives and minds of the people we help. We are committed to bringing continued support to a rural village in central Vietnam.

Winter Launch at Miracle Thieves

We are happy to announce that our team is growing!  Please welcome Alana, whom – in the short time that we’ve know her – has proven to possess a really good brain and sense of humour… maybe even better than ours.  Now, without further ado,  Alana’s first blog post:

Thursday night The Uncarved Block attended the Winter Launch at Miracle Thieves! This was my first Miracle Thieves event and I quickly learned that this is a place for Toronto’s creative community to showcase their talent, whether it be fashion, art, or anything in between.

For the month of December Miracle Thieves will be open as a Holiday Boutique filled with the workings of 16 different vendors. I was surprised to see all these local designers/artists working non-competitively together in a single venue.  There is definitely a wide selection of goods and a variety of styles all in one place; including jewelry by iMoniq, 90210 Velvet Collection women’s wear, leather accessories by Rviz, and wild honey by Nude Bee. I was welcomed into a comfortable atmosphere with great music by David Coppafeel and the most delicious treats by Humble Pie.

With so many awesome and unique choices it was hard to pick favourites, but we found a few items that caught our eyes.

Me, I’m a sucker for Jewelry… I adore these pieces by Wild Moon Jewelry.

Robin is a huge fan of the Take to the Sea terrariums.

Top on Craig’s list is this Anorank Hoody by Magma By Iris.

The shop was well-merchandised with stand out items for anyone on your holiday gift-list.

Various turbans by Leilanni.

Plaster and paper goods by In Love with Excellence.

Fine art by Rajni Perera

Alpaca wool knitted head warmers by Sammy Jade.

Others include: textiles of India by NorBlack NorWhite, outerwear by OSC Cross, stationary by Ron Vs. Squid, coffee beans by Sam James Coffee Bar, and accessories by Vitality.

It was a great night a Miracle Thieves!

Support Shopping local!

Alana

Yippee!  Here’s video footage of the Hello World opening at ARTiculations for the Junction Design Crawl.  A mega-huge-heart-exploding thanks to Light x Hevvy for being documenter supremes.

And here are some photos of the show:

Play more.

Playing once a day keeps the sadness at bay.

Go play & create.

#nesting

Though primarily a construction zone, our place has a few cozy settings. Yesterday Lori-Anne Lacambra, aspiring photographer (and Robin’s sister), was over and captured a few pics.

Enjoy!

The National Organ, out of tune in the most wonderful way.

The world. A gift from Robin's spirit mom. (We are aware of how hippy that sounds)

What to do with 935 wood samples.

What to do with 935 wood samples from The Uncarved Block on Vimeo.

About a year ago, we helped our friends at Relative Space with some back room clean-up.  Relative Space specializes in engineered wood flooring and is guided by the principles of sustainability & design.  Naturally, when we heard they were purging out-dated wood samples it occurred to us that it would be a prime opportunity for preemptive recycling.  We took everything…. and Relative Space was left with the comforting feeling in knowing that the wood would be repurposed.

Out of the thousands of little wood samples acquired, we took 935 of them and cladded the wall behind our bed.

Voila!

CMYK Toy

Oh we’ve become so bad at updating this thing.

We promise to fill you in on all the goods soon – specifically on how awesome the “Hello World” opening was.

For now, here’s a GIF of our CMYK Toy in action.  We encourage you to head over to ARTiculations and play with it yourselves.  If you do, send us a picture of your creation!

Here are a few pics of CMYK Toy creations:

Special shout outs to Amanda Lew Kee for the heart and 8-year-old Destiny for the puppy (?) !  We love that the CMYK toy engages a broad spectrum of “players”!

Now go play and make art.

Twice in the Grid

Our tables made it in the GridTO!

Again!

Again, unnamed, but again for an awesome Toronto space run by awesome Torontonians who strive to keep art and creativity a daily priority.

Check out the article the Grid wrote on our friends at ARTiculations.  Then go visit them in the Junction, buy art supplies and make something.

For a throwback, here’s the picture of our tables being unveiled at Miracle Thieves captured by the lovely Jenna Wakani for (you guessed it) The Grid.
