Hello World from The Uncarved Block on Vimeo.

Yippee!  Here’s video footage of the Hello World opening at ARTiculations for the Junction Design Crawl.  A mega-huge-heart-exploding thanks to Light x Hevvy for being documenter supremes.

And here are some photos of the show:

CMYK Toy

Oh we’ve become so bad at updating this thing.

We promise to fill you in on all the goods soon – specifically on how awesome the “Hello World” opening was.

For now, here’s a GIF of our CMYK Toy in action.  We encourage you to head over to ARTiculations and play with it yourselves.  If you do, send us a picture of your creation!

Here are a few pics of CMYK Toy creations:

Special shout outs to Amanda Lew Kee for the heart and 8-year-old Destiny for the puppy (?) !  We love that the CMYK toy engages a broad spectrum of “players”!

Now go play and make art.

Moving on up & keeping it level.

It’s been a while.

We’ve been busy building the nest & helping others build theirs.

Here’s a little teaser of our progress.

Space Making

We’ve been keeping really busy and it feels good.  Passion projects are the most effective way of staying motivated in other areas of life, and our involvement with Miracle Thieves is definitely a fueling passion.

As their curator, I’ve sourced over 30 new artists to join the consignment boutique just in time for the holidays.  Since I usually call on Craig for installation help, we decided to make most of the fixtures and merchandise the space under The Uncarved Block to beef up our “space making” profile.

Here’s a sneak peak.

The final reveal is on Saturday December 3.  Come and check it out in person and do all of your holiday shopping local and handmade.

The good hustle never ends.

The Bedroom

The image above depicts the humble beginnings of our bedroom.  Other than the turquoise pillow and the flooring-sample-turned-headboard, there wasn’t much colour or personality.  So we got to work on making the bedroom a proper representation of who we are.

We decided to install a “memorabilia wall” above our headboard.  It was a good use of stuff that generally collects dust under beds, in closets or in forgotten boxes.

My wonderful Auntie Nely, visiting from the Philippines, was so kind to make us this quilt to help warm our home.  The quilt, combined with the golden glow from our trash-to-treasure lanterns, gave the room the burst of colour it needed.

We’re happy to start and end our days here.

logbarfsticks

We took a break from our bike ride to Port Credit to sit on a giant log.  We never made it to our final destination but instead got sucked into spontaneous nature art-ing.  As we were fixated on making the giant log barf sticks, a man walked by, looked at our work in progress and said “thanks”.  Charmed.

This is the inaugural manifestation of the LogBarfSticks series.

There was the sweetest old man and his grandson a few metres away who were also getting their nature art-ing on.  This was their masterpiece.

I’m curious to see how either of our installations will “evolve” over time.

We like to create pleasant spaces.  Our home, especially.

Both of us collectors of random things, it’s always a fun challenge to get creative with storing/showcasing all of our stuff so that our guests “oooo” and “ahhhh” at our vast collection of belongings instead of calling us hoarders.

We’ll be posting more images of home-installations as we continue to build our nest.
